Michael A. Dunlap & Associates LLC unveiled the results of its second annual MADA/OFI Supplier Survey, a tool that measures how suppliers view their customers and to measure certain criteria in the business relationship.
The survey, completed in May, selected 15 of the largest office furniture manufacturers in North America and asked suppliers to rate each furniture manufacturer, on a scale of 5 (Excellent), 4, (Good), 3 (Fair), 2 (Poor), and 1 (Not Acceptable) for 10 individual business activities:
• Accounting/Finance
• Engineering
• Information Technology
• Manufacturing
• Marketing and Product Management
• Quality Management
• Product Development
• Sourcing/Purchasing/Procurement
• Top Management
• Overall Experience
A total score for each furniture manufacturer was calculated, with Allsteel Inc., a division of HNI Corp. in Muscatine, Iowa, as the top customer. Suppliers rated Kimball Office, in Jasper, Ind., and Herman Miller Inc., in Zeeland, Mich., as the second and third best customers, respectively.
When asked which companies they currently supply to and which they would like to supply to, Herman Miller Inc. topped suppliers' list of current customers, while Trendway Corp. was selected as the company suppliers were most interested in supplying to.
